What do Galileo Galilei and Elizabeth Barret Browning have in common?

Nothing, probably, other than the fact they both lived in the Oltrarno, as my walk today proved.

I spotted this sign on this building, which tells us that the young toddler (bambino) Galileo lived in this Florentine house in 1574-75.

Roughly three centuries later (the blink of an eye in Florence), and on another street, just to the south of the Pitti Palace, lived, wrote, and died Elizabeth Barrett Browning.  I’ll be writing more about her another time.
